I couldn't have said it better

After the tragedy in Connecticut, I thought about the random and fascinating fact that blogs with big followings seem to have some sort of unspoken responsibility to respond to these tragic and heartbreaking events. With my lack of writing experience and my following of a whopping 12, I feel exempt from and inadequate in meeting this expectation. Luckily, I follow some really awesome blogs. Kelle Hampton wrote a great post with some sweet quotes from other sources. It's a little long, but even if you can read the first few paragraphs, I think it would be well worth your time. I love her idea, and the idea she got from Brene Brown, that leaning into joy and allowing ourselves to feel joy fully will cultivate hope. "Fear will not win. Hate will never prevail."

One of the verses that I've felt especially stirred by and that has brought me hope this week is John 16:33. "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

This is how I feel

I'm done with the semester! Listened to this (multiple times) on my way home from taking my last final. Life is good.

In honor of Christmas and family and procrastination

I'm reblogging one of my own posts from just over a year ago. It's one of my favorites and it is a good reminder. My family rocks.

Risk

Last week I decided I wanted to go on a photo adventure and I wanted to rollerblade. I realized this wasn't necessarily the best choice with my new camera, since I'm not exactly the most skilled rollerblader in the world. But I decided to take the risk anyway...taking risks is the only way people achieve their dreams, right? About halfway down my driveway, with my new camera in hand, I seriously questioned my decision-making ability. But I made it to the sidewalk without falling! I only ended up going around the block before deciding this was a situation in which it really wasn't worth the risk. But I saw this pretty lady on the way and made it home without any tragic accidents.

Procrastination at its finest...

All I want to do is not study. AHHHHH. Less than 48 more hours and I don't even know if I'll make it. Luckily, Cathy made me aware of this incredible new blog. I've already read all of the existing entries. This is one of my favorites: http://yourllbeanboyfriend.tumblr.com/post/37125734273/we-dont-have-to-repaint-the-barn-door-today

Christmas Cheer

Oh, I am so missing blogging! I've gotten in this cycle of busyness and stress and not making time for things that I really love because I've forgotten how much I love them. Primarily, blogging. Things on my to-do list right now include getting an oil change (which I SO do not want to do because it makes me feel like an adult, which I absolutely am not), babysitting, studying, writing thank-you's, compiling a WL Dream Day list, seeing a Christmas movie with my mom and Liv, etc. So a good post may have to wait a couple more days. BUT...just know that we are getting into the Christmas spirit these days here at the McDermott house and good things are happening. Here's a precious picture to tide you over for a real post...Christmas sweaters and babies...better yet, babies in Christmas sweaters...what more could you ask for??
And here's a link to my best friend's blog with our video from Dream Day 2012. Embarrassing that I haven't even written about that yet. Enjoy :)
